join Kafunjo’s US support team!

What are the ways you can Get involved?

If you’d like to join the Kafunjo Team, THANK YOU! It is an extremely rewarding Project to be a part of and we can’t wait for you to experience that. Below are the ways you can help and become connected with Kafunjo.

1) Become a Monthly Sponsor of the Project. This can be in any amount that you choose. The Project is in great (we cannot emphasize this enough) need of more reliable monthly support. Monthly sponsors are key to creating the stability that the Project desperately needs. No donation is too small. These collected funds may be put toward a number of different things such as medicine, food, firewood, school supplies for students, paying employee salaries, feminine hygiene products, and much more.

2) Send a One Time Donation. Not ready to take the plunge yet? That’s okay! Sending a one time donation of any amount is a great way to get your feet wet and start experiencing the Project. These donations may be put toward any of the examples I listed above and more.

3) Send the Project a Care Package. This is also a wonderful way to connect with the Project. Children love gifts and it’s fun to send them. Please note that depending on the size and weight of your care package, shipping can become pretty pricey. While we cannot guarantee anything, we always do our best to get photos of the children opening your care package to send you. If this is something you are interested in doing, please contact us for more info!

4) Find Bruno on Facebook and arrange a video chat. This is such a fun way to experience the Project and get to know some of the children! You can contact Bruno on his main Facebook account Bruno Biryomumaisho. They will be so glad to meet you!

5) Participate in a Letter Drive. Our President, Ashley, coordinates these for the children at the Project once a year. Writing a one-time letter to a child at the orphanage is a GREAT way to encourage them and let them know they are loved. Please let us know if you would like to participate in our next Letter Drive!

  • Bruno uses donations at his discretion as he is most aware of the Project’s greatest needs at any given moment. We cannot guarantee your donation will be used for any specified purpose.

  • Please note that, while the Project is not a religious organization, the church is well loved in the community. Occasionally, very small amounts of donations may go toward covering minor church related expenses. While more than 99% of donations go straight toward funding the Project, we did want to be upfront about this with our donors. The church is a source of great joy and hope to many living at the Project and, because of that, it is our honor to assist with these minuscule needs. We love Kafunjo and, given all the suffering they’ve been through, we believe they deserve to have things that make them happy. The church building is on the school property and is also extremely useful for the Project. Bottom line, you do not have to be religious to support the Project, you just have to love Kafunjo.

  • IMPORTANT: In order to protect our nonprofit, we’re asking all  US donations over $1000 to be sent to us via ACH Bank Transfer or paper check (please see our Contact page for our mailing address). These methods of donating will enable us to send your donation to the Project MUCH faster, otherwise your donation will need to be held in our account for a full 90 days. ACH Bank Transfer will be listed as an option as you fill out your donation form below. All international donations over $1000 will need to be held for 90 days. Thank you so much!

Shirah’s “Song of thanks”

This beautiful song was written by a girl named Shirah and is performed with other children who live at The Kafunjo Community Project. This song comes from a place of heartfelt gratitude for everyone who has contributed to making their dream of The Kafunjo Community Project a reality. Below is the translation of the song.
